This Privacy Policy discloses the privacy practices for the Center for Women's Business Research website, www.womensbusinessresearch.org.  The Center for Women's Business Research respects your privacy. In collecting and using information about you, we adhere to the following principles:

  • We collect information about you only when you provide it voluntarily.

  • We use the collected information only for the purposes for which you provided it.

  • We share the information that we collect with third parties only upon your approval (other than as specified below).

  • We do not sell or rent email or mailing lists to third parties.

TYPES AND METHODS OF INFORMATION COLLECTION

The Center may collect your personal information, such as your name, title, address, telephone number, email address, credit card information, or your company's name in connection with your or your company's:

  • Mailing list subscription

  • Newsletter subscription

  • Conference registration

  • Evaluation conference form

  • Online purchase

  • Email sent via the Center's website

  • Site submission forms

  • Resume submitted for a position at the Center

Information Collected Through Emails: When you open an email sent by the Center, we may receive a confirmation that you have opened the email, if your email software supports such functionality. The Center may also archive emails that we send to or receive from you.

Information Collected Through Cookies: The Center's site uses cookies to store your username and password. "Cookies" are small text files a website may use to recognize repeat visitors, facilitate the visitor's ongoing access to and use of the website, and allow the website to track the visitor's behavior and compile aggregate data for content improvements. Most Internet browsers will let you disable cookies. If you do so, you may not be able to use the "remember password," the shopping cart, and other features on the Center's site.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

We may share information about our site users with:

  • Our leadership-Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Corporate Partners and Project Sponsors-for purposes of improving the content and usability of our site

  • Other businesses and individuals performing functions on the Center's behalf, including market-research assistance; in such cases, we have non-disclosure agreements with these third parties to protect your information

  • Governmental authorities under subpoenas, court orders, or other legal processes (such disclosure may be done without notice to you).

We will not share your contact information with other organizations for commercial or solicitation purposes.

SECURITY

No transmission over the Internet is 100% secure and when you provide your information to us over the Internet, you do so at your own risk. The Center stores all collected electronic data in a password-protected database. We maintain our own email and mailing lists. High-grade encryption is used to protect your credit card information.

CORRECTION AND UPDATING OF YOUR INFORMATION

The Center allows you to review, correct, or delete your information in or from our databases. If you wish to review or have questions regarding your information, please email us at info@womensbusinessresearch.org, or call 202.638.3060 and ask for our webmaster.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time. Such changes, modifications, additions, or deletions shall be effective immediately upon notice thereof, which will be given by posting the revised Policy on this page. You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to review this policy periodically, and to be aware of any modifications. Your continued use of our site after any such modifications will constitute your (a) acknowledgment of any modified Policy; and (b) agreement to abide and be bound by any modified Policy.

Information We Collect From You

We will collect some personal information from you such as name, email address, address and year of birth during the registration process.  We will also collect some information about your business such as your length of ownership, whether you are the sole owner or have a partner, the industry or economic sector, and gross sales or revenue levels.

All personal and business related information that we collect from you is for the following purposes only:

(a) To conduct quantitative or qualitative social and marketing research;

(b) To understand respondent opinions to establish suitability for further

quantitative and qualitative social and marketing research.

You may "opt out" of giving personal or business information at anytime during the registration process or when taking a survey, however, these types of questions are necessary in order to assure that our panel is representative of ALL women business owners in the U.S.

We use personal and business information gathered during registration or during surveys only to analyze the survey results.  For example, we might look at the answers of women business owners who have partners compared to those who are sole proprietors of their businesses, or compare responses of those who started their business within the last few years, compared to those who have owned their businesses for longer periods of time.  Upon request, we will provide you with further in-depth information regarding the collection of any personal or business information.

When personal information that has been collected is to be used or disclosed for a purpose not previously identified, the new purpose will be identified prior to use.  Unless the new purpose is permitted or required by law, your consent will be acquired before the information will be used or disclosed for the new purpose.

How we use your Information

The Center will not release any individual personal or business information you provide.Survey results will only be reported in aggregate form.  This means that your individual responses to our survey questions are grouped with the answers of other women business owners and only reported as statistical summaries.  In aggregate form it is impossible to identify an individual respondent's personal information.  None of the information collected in surveys is reported by the names or addresses of members. Your individual information is always placed into anonymous, statistical summaries that are used in analyzing or reporting the results of our research.  No one outside of the researchers at the Center for Women’s Business Research and its contractors will ever know how you personally answered any of the questions in our surveys.

Generally, as noted above, any personal information collected in the course of a panel survey is not disclosed to third parties.In circumstances where the Center does disclose information to a third party, the Center will not do so without obtaining your express written permission.  An example of such a circumstance might be when we contact you with a request to include a specific quote or comment you may have provided us in a research report.Generally, we will seek consent to use and disclose this type of information at the same time that the data is being collected.  However, on occasion, we may seek consent to use and/or disclose information after it has been collected, but before it is used and/or disclosed for the purposes stated above.


Voluntary Nature of Your Participation

Your participation as a member of the W-BIZ Insight™ research panel is strictly voluntary.Once you join our panel and receive invitations to complete surveys, you are under no obligation to complete those surveys. You can simply choose not to respond.If you start taking a survey and are asked questions you do not wish to respond to, you may simply stop taking the survey at any point.Center for Women's Business Research Privacy Policy
